Program Descriptions

4u

Players born in 2018 thru 3/31/19, This program is run “in-house,” with practices and matches held twice a week in a 60 minutes block of time. These sessions are run by our Volunteer Coaches & DCFC Staff with a 30-minute practice followed by 30-minute 4v4 match.

Why 4v4 for these age groups? A study by soccer coaches international in 2006 comparing these age groups playing 4v4 and 7v7 found that during the 4v4 matches:

·         Number of passes – increase by 135%

·         Scoring attempts – increase by 260%

·         Number of goals scored – increase by 500%

·         Number of 1v1 encounters – increase by 225%

·         Number of dribbling skills (tricks) – increase by 280%

The more our players are involved during the match play means the more they are going to have fun & develop their skills.

6u & 8u

Players born from 2014 to 2017. The program is run “in-house” with practices and matches held twice a week in a 60 minutes block of time. These sessions are run by our Volunteer Coaches, with a 20-minute practice, followed by 40-minute 4v4 match.

Why 4v4 for these age groups? See 3u for more information.

10u & 12u

Players born from 2010 to 2013. The program is run “in-house” with practices held once a week and matches on a separate night. These sessions are run by our Volunteer Coaches. DCFC approved practice sessions can be found on our website.

10u matches will be played in a 7v7 format (6 field players & a Keeper).

12u matches will be played in a 9v9 format (8 field players & a Keeper).

These formats are designed to increase our players’ involvement and development during the matches. No scores are kept and coaches and parents are encouraged to just ‘let the kids play’ during the matches.

14u

Players born 6/1/2007 through 2009, The program is run “in house” with practices held once a week and matches on a separate night. These sessions are run by our Volunteer Coaches. DCFC approved practice sessions can be found on our website.

14u will play 11v11 on a full-size match pitch. Depending on number of teams in this age group, some teams may have the opportunity to play teams from our other locations (Muncie, Yorktown, Anderson). No scores are kept and coaches and parents are encouraged to just ‘let the kids play’ during the matches.

RECREATIONAL GUIDELINES

HYDRATE - Each player is encouraged to provide his/her own water bottle for each practice  and game. Additionally, it would be beneficial to label the bottle with your player's name.

SHIN GUARDS - All participants MUST wear shin guards during all practices and games. This is for  your child's safety, and he/she may not play without them.

BALL - Each player is encouraged to have his/her own ball. Players will gain maximum benefit from  practices by increasing their contact with the ball.

  • Groups 4U-6U: Size 3
  • Groups 8U-12U: Size 4
  • Group 14U: Size 5

SHOES - Soccer cleats are recommended but not required. Soccer cleats should be rubber  or molded plastic – no metal cleats.

UNIFORM - Shin guards should not be visible and socks should be long enough to pull over the shin  guards. If your child wears a jacket or sweatshirt during the game, their team shirt should be on the  outside of all layers. It can be very windy at the fields and colder than you may expect. Plan to bring  an extra layer and/or blanket to each game.

JEWELRY - No jewelry is allowed to be worn during games. This includes earrings. This should also  be the rule during practices. Again, this is for the safety of all players.
